Valley Park vs Earley Gunners 0 - 9

Match Report

Earley Gunners gained some degree of revenge for the disappointing early season result with a convincing 9-0 win over Valley Park.

Valley put out a much changed around side and made life difficult for the Gunners during the first ten to fifteen minutes of the game although Gunners did had a few close efforts. The referee also seemed to be making a name for himself by awarding a free kick every time contact was made.

Gunners managed to break the deadlock through Kevin Rapley and then the team began to settle some more and played some better passing football.

Valley Park offered little opposition up front and the Gunners defence easily coped with the occasional attack. The only danger came from a couple of corners which were scrambled away and one free kick which was well saved by Julian Willis.

Gunners then began to dominate possession and the goals started to arrive. Leigh Holdway scored his first goal of the season with an exquisite lob shot from outside the box and then after waiting ten games for his first goal, he then added a second.

In the second half Gunners continued where they had left off and Kevin Rapley added four more goals whilst other goals came from Sean Kearns and Ian Thornhill after a neat turn and shot.
The final result was an easy 9-0 win. Ian Thornhill was names Gunners "Man of the Match" for a tireless performance.
