Earley Gunners vs Shinfield 3 - 3

Match Report

Earley Gunners earned a 3 - 3 draw against an indisciplined Shinfield Lions Res team. Gunners made a terrible start by conceeding two goals in the first ten minutes and Roger Bungay making a rare appearance in goal was also called into action to make a good close range save to keep the score down.

After a brief tactical change, Gunners began to get back into the game and scored through Iain Peer. Iain then made it two after curling in a great free kick. Shinfield Lions Res, looked reasonably tidy on the ball but their tackling left a lot to be desired and Gunners were frequently being awarded free kicks which also resulted in a Shinfield player being booked. The half time score was 2-2.

The second half saw the game continue in the same manner with Shinfield consistently fouling the Gunners players which eventually resulted in a Shinfield Lions player being sent off for a nasty looking challenge which resulted in Carl Littlechild not being able to continue the game.
However, the fact that the opposition were reduced to ten men seemed to lift them and Gunners seemed to relax. Shinfield took the lead after being awarded a penalty for a foul by Paul Marten which was converted.

Gunners had several chances to get level notably through Paul Stout and Matt Rees. Kenny Bunce was also involved in the action when he made a surging run towards goal and eventually collided with the keeper who had tried to save the ball. The Shinfield keeper was replaced by an outfield player.

With a few minutes to spare Paul Clark was fouled in the box and Iain Peer scored the penalty to earn Gunners a draw. Gunners "Man of the Match" was Paul Clark for a good display in midfield. Unfortunately, the game was somewhat spoilt by the opposition who continuously barracked the referee throughout the game and after the final whistle had blown.

Saints vs Earley Gunners 2 - 2

Match Report

Earley Gunners drew 2 - 2 with Saints in a scrappy tie.

Gunners made their almost obligatory bad start and failed to clear some long balls in the first few minutes and were punished when they conceded an early goal after their forward pounced onto a long ball which was not cleared.

However, Gunners then settled down and managed to get back into the game when Dave Owen played the ball onto Iain Peer who turned the last defender inside out before slotting the ball home.

Saints had a good chance to score but Julian Willis made a good save and Gunners also had a few opportunities to score including a close chance from Dave Owen. The half time score was 1-1.

In the second half, Gunners went down 2-1 after Saints hit a long ball into the box which was not headed clear, Julian parried the first shot but Gunners did not clear the ball second time round.
However, Gunners did equalise when Paul Stout played Iain Peer through who scored for his second goal of the game.

Gunners had numerous chances to seize the advantage and spurned several clear opportunities including a one on one with the keeper from Matt Walker and Paul Clark who shaved the post with their shots. Richard Alderton also had a couple of good opportunities to score and Paul Ali had a close chance from a corner. Saints were limited to a few chances this half.

Gunners should have had a penalty when Dave Owen was blatantly fouled in the box but Saints also had the ball in the back of the net which was ruled out for offside.

The final score was a draw which should be considered two points dropped rather than a point gained.

The referee was also had a poor game which did not help the scrappy nature of the game.
Gunners "Man of the Match" was Matt Rees for a solid game at the back.

Earley Gunners vs Loxwood 7 - 3

Match Report

Earley Gunners earned a victory over Loxwood Res after a dramatic second half comeback.
Gunners were all at sea for the first twenty minutes of the game and allowed Loxwood to take a 2 goal lead.

It was fair to say that a there were a few hang-overs from certain team members which prevented from them from playing to their full potential!

However, minutes before half time Gunners pulled a goal back after Iain Peer headed in from Dave Owen's attempt at a scissors kick. There was some dispute over goal from the opposition for a possible off-side but the referee allowed the goal.

In the second half Gunners levelled through Iain Peer before falling behind again after Loxwood finished from close range after a game of rebound in theGunners penalty box.

Gunners then began to play a bit more football and started to create plenty of openings and Gunners dominated the last twenty five minutes of the game.

Iain scored his hat-trick after latching on to a neat through ball from Dave and finished with a well placed shot to the side of the keeper.

Gunners then crept into the lead when Dave Owen scored with a rocket shot from the angle and then added his second when Richard Alderton was fouled by the opposing keeper and a penalty was awarded whilst Richard was trying to regain his feet.

Paul Marten then scored his first ever goal for the club when he converted a second penalty after Iain Peer appeared to be fouled in the box and Iain then rounded of the match with a fourth goal after being played in by Richard Alderton.

The final score was a 7-3 win.

Gunners were very poor for most of the first half but the team were much better in the second where we added six goals to ensure a clear victory.

Gunners "Man of the Match" was Carl Littlechild for a great display at left back although Iain Peer also had a very good game.
