Earley Gunners vs Good Companions 3 - 3

Match Report

Gunners earned a 3-3 draw with Good Companions after coming back from two goals down.

The first half was an even affair with both team creating a few chances at either end. Goodies took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when the ball was crossed from the Gunners right and fell into the opponents path who slotted the ball home from the edge of the box.

Gunners had a few chances to score, including some pressure from corners. The best chance came within the dying minutes of the first half when Richard Alderton volleyed the ball on his left foot which the keeper tipped over the bar.

In the second half Gunners levelled after a Peter Ali played a long ball forward which Bill Maslin chased down and he pressured the defender into knocking this ball into his own net.

However, Goodies took the lead again when they seized an opportunity to take a quick free kick and took an early shot whilst the defenders were forming the wall and the keeper was caught unaware.

Gunners struggled to play any neat passing football in the second half and the windy conditions did not help with the ball being hit too far forward on more than one occasion.

With twenty minutes to go, Gunners got a goal back with the a good one touch move between Paul Stout and Matt Rees who played Dave Owen in to score from close range.

Dave then had a great chance to equalise when the keeper kicked the ball to him by mistake but the shot was saved by the keeper.

However, Gunners then levelled the game with ten minutes to go when a long throw was flicked on to Bill Maslin who steered the ball home.

Gunners looked the more likely to score in the last few minutes but did not create any real further chances and the game ended as a 3-3 draw.

Earley Gunners vs West End 1 - 4

Match Report

Gunners poor run of form continued with a home defeat to West End.

Gunners made the best possible start with a goal within thirty seconds of kick off from Dave Owen who nutmegged two opponents and rifled in a shot from 25 yards.

However, West End soon got into the game and started to control possession. They equalised from a free header from a corner and then added another when the Gunners team stood watching to give them a 2-1 lead.

Shortly before half time they made it three, when Peter Ali was adjudged to have fouled an opponent and they subsequently converted the penalty.

Gunners managed one or two breaks but failed to put the West End keeper under any serious pressure.

In the second half, the game continued as it had in the first with West End having more of the play. They added a fourth goal midway through the second half to make it 4-1 and effectively killed off the game.

Gunners did create more chances in the second half. Bill Maslin broke through twice and had chances to score and Paul Stout also hit the post with an effort.

At the other end of the field, West End came close with a few mid range efforts.

The final result was a 4-1 defeat.

AFC Twyford vs Earley Gunners 5 - 1

Match Report

Gunners title ambitions were effectively ended after suffering a second defeat to in form AFC Twyford in as many weeks.

Gunners who had lost last weeks game 3-0 started the better of the teams and opened the scoring when Matt Rees drove the ball home from outside the box.

However, AFC Twyford struck back with two goals with Gunners were unable to deal with crosses into the box and failed to mark their men properly.

The referee then awarded a free kick against Gunners on the edge of their box (which was never a free kick) and AFC Twyford added a third from another header.

Towards the end of the first half Matt Rees had a great opportunity to add a second goal for Gunners, but he couldn't quite get his shot away properly.

The half time score was 3-1 to AFC Twyford.

In the second half Gunners had a greater share of the possession and more of the play was in the AFC Tywford half but the team could not create many scoring opportunities.

The closest Gunners came to scoring was through free kick opportunities from Dave Owen and Paul Stout.

At the other end of the field, AFC Twyford looked to catch Gunners on the counter-attack and looked dangerous on a few occasions particularly as Gunners had pushed an extra man up front.
AFC Twyford scored two late goals including a neat flick over the keeper to put them in an unassailable position.

Carl Littlechild had a late opportunity to score when his shot went just wide and Marcus Randles put the opposition under pressure with his aerial presence but again Gunners were unable to create clear shots on goal.

The final score was a 5-1 defeat. "Man of the Match" was Matt Rees for an excellent game in midfield where he battled well for the full 90 minutes.
