Valley Park vs Earley Gunners 0 - 9

Match Report

Earley Gunners gained some degree of revenge for the disappointing early season result with a convincing 9-0 win over Valley Park.

Valley put out a much changed around side and made life difficult for the Gunners during the first ten to fifteen minutes of the game although Gunners did had a few close efforts. The referee also seemed to be making a name for himself by awarding a free kick every time contact was made.

Gunners managed to break the deadlock through Kevin Rapley and then the team began to settle some more and played some better passing football.

Valley Park offered little opposition up front and the Gunners defence easily coped with the occasional attack. The only danger came from a couple of corners which were scrambled away and one free kick which was well saved by Julian Willis.

Gunners then began to dominate possession and the goals started to arrive. Leigh Holdway scored his first goal of the season with an exquisite lob shot from outside the box and then after waiting ten games for his first goal, he then added a second.

In the second half Gunners continued where they had left off and Kevin Rapley added four more goals whilst other goals came from Sean Kearns and Ian Thornhill after a neat turn and shot.
The final result was an easy 9-0 win. Ian Thornhill was names Gunners "Man of the Match" for a tireless performance.

Match Report

Gunners won the local derby with a very convincing 8-0 win over Earley HG Res. This was also the battle of the two top strikers with Kevin Rapley representing Gunners against Earley Home Guards top scorer.

Gunners started the game very well and played some good short passing football which soon opened up the oppositions defence.

Gunners had a very good first half and the goals soon flowed with Kevin Rapley adding two and further goals coming from Chris Price, Ian Thornhill and a long range drive from Jon Weller.
Gunners were very disciplined in defence with the opposition being restricted to a couple of chances, whilst the Gunners midfield dominated play with some good passing and solid defending when required. Ian and Kevin were also causing the oppositions defence all sorts of problems with their intelligent runs.

A very good first half saw Gunners take a 5-0 lead into the break.

The second half saw Peter Ali introduced in midfield for his first appearance for the club and he was soon involved in the action.

The second half saw three goals of the highest standard. Dave Owen added two with a couple of unstoppable shots from outside the box and Kevin Rapley completed his hat-trick with a great scissors kick after a series of short passes which had built up from the Gunners defence. Paul Clark then came close when he hit the bar with a shot.

Chequers Res vs Earley Gunners 1 - 13

Match Report

Fair Mile hospital was the venue which offered a very wide pitch for Gunners to display their skills, a dead rat on the pitch and poor changing facilities made the visitors feel very welcome.

The game got underway with Dave Owen opening the scoring and then Phil Byrne added a second moments later. There was a momentary scare when Chequers pulled a goal back after a solo runner broke free and lobbed the keeper from a distance to make it 2-1. Chequers then had a good ten minute spell when they put Gunners under pressure.

However Gunners hit back and three more goals were added before half time from Kevin Rapley, Chris Price and Darren Fry whose shot went in off the post. Unfortunately, it was a typical Gunners performance with the team wasting several opportunities to add more goals.

The second half was totally dominated by Gunners with Kevin Rapley in top form. He led the way with a great individual performance in which he added six goals in the second half to complete the game with a total of seven goals. Further goals also came from Ian Thornhill and a superb long range effort from Paul Clark.

There final result was an easy 13-1 win. Kevin Rapley was Gunners Man of the Match.

Gunners were 3-0 up at half-time and were reasonably comfortable although they did have chances to add a few more goals.

Moderation came out and attacked more in the second half and Gunners were put under some pressure for the first 10-15 minutes with the team finding it difficult to retain possession.

However the Moderation offensive forays rarely resulted in any chances being created thanks to some better defensive work and soon Gunners began to dominate the game again. Further goals were then added from Kevin Rapley (3), Phil Byrne and Dave Owen.

Chris Price had a couple of glorious opportunities to increase his tally of goals after some great surging runs but the chances were not taken. The final result was an 8-0 win.
