Woodley Res vs Earley Gunners 1 - 1

Match Report

Gunners finished the season with a 1-1 which dented Woodley's chance of Runners-Up spot in the league.

Gunners took the lead early in the first half when Richard Alderton set up Paul Stout who rifled the ball in from close range.

Woodley then had a good period of possession and forced a number of corners. Gunners had to clear the ball of their line twice to deny Woodley scoring. Woodley's best chance came when their forward had a clear run on goal but his lob went over the bar.

Gunners had the occasional counter-attack. Matt Rees came close when Dave Owen headed the ball onto him although he did not get enough power in his header.

Fraser was called into action on a couple of occasions with a couple of dangerous corners. However, Gunners battled well in defence to keep clear cut chances on goal to a minimum. The half time score was 1-0.

In the second half, the game followed the first with Woodley reliant on a long ball up front. This had been picked up by Gunners and Paul Stout had dropped slightly deeper to win these balls.
However, Gunners could not string many passes together and relied too much on a quick ball up front but failed to give their forwards too much support.

Woodley created a couple of chances but Gunners also came close from Matt Rees and Paul Stout, whose free kick was well saved by the keeper.

Paul Stout did have a great chance to score when he was clean through but blasted the ball over the bar.

Woodley managed to equalise when they were awarded a penalty for an alleged foul by Paul Ali which was subsequently converted. Gunners felt this decision was extremely harsh. Fraser McNaughtons protests earned him a yellow card.

The final few minutes ran out with neither team having a clear chances to win.

The final score was 1-1 and Paul Stout was Gunners "Man of the Match".
