Earley Gunners vs Good Companions 2 - 2

Match Report

Gunners earned a 2-2 draw with Good Companions.

Gunners started the game well and took an early lead when Peter Ali charged down a ball which Marcus Randles fired home from close range.

Goodies nearly equalised when they hit the bar and the resulting ball was cleared. At the other end of the field Gunners created a couple of chances but could not add to their lead.

However Goodies equalised late in the half when they were allowed to shoot from inside the box and the shot went in off the post.

There was an altercation between Paul Stout and his opposing number which resulted in Paul getting booked.

In the second half Gunners took the lead when Paul Marten crossed for Steve Smith to finish with a half volley from close range.

However, Goodies had the better of the second half and started to play some better passing football. They eventually equalised when a through ball was played and the Goodies forward out-muscled the Gunners defender to score from close range.

At that point, there were a few dangerous moments in each box but neither team really looked like they were going to win and the final result was a 2-2 draw which was a fair result.

Gunners "Man of the Match" was Marcus Randles for a hard working display.

Earley Gunners vs Wokingham CC

Match Report

Gunners lost their first game of the season to Wokingham and Emmbrook.

Gunners did not have the best of starts when a number of late withdrawals from the squad meant Gunners were severely short of numbers although a couple of last minute appearances meant Gunners (just) managed to field 11 men.

The game was fairly even for the first ten minutes but then Wokingham began to break more effectively and had more possession. They took the lead when they scored with a short range header which looked well off-side but Gunners did not have a linesman to view the decision.
Gunners closest chance came when Dave Owen played a one-two and his shot hit the post. Dave then picked up an injury and was replaced by Duncan.

Wokingham then doubled their lead before half time with a shot from inside the box.
In the second half Gunners got themselves back into the game when Peter Ali was fouled in the box and Paul Stout converted the penalty.

However, Wokingham then added two more goals. The first was a shot from outside the box which took a deflection of Carl as he tried to block the shot which looped over the keeper.
The second was a long range effort from the left wing which sailed into the top corner.
Gunners did pull a goal back when Ian volleyed the ball in from the edge of the box. Paul Ali also came close when his header hit the cross bar, however Gunners found it difficult to create many chances after that and the game was looking beyond Gunners reach.

The final score was a 4-2 defeat. Despite Gunners having a depleted team, they did not play enough football and the team lacked the effort and desire which had been evident the past couple of weeks

West End vs Earley Gunners 1 - 6

Match Report

Gunners continued their bright start to the season with a convincing win against West End.
Gunners started the brighter of both teams and took a two goal lead through Bill Maslin and Paul Stout who scored direct from a free kick.

However, after this early spell West End came more into the game although tended to rely on the long ball on too many occasions.

West Ends improvement earned them a goal to give Gunners a 2-1 lead at half time.
In the second half Gunners gave themselves a two goal cushion when Bill Maslin added his second. West End were weakened by the loss of a couple of key players and their lack of confidence was evident as Gunners added more goals through Bill Maslin who was played through once by Paul Stout and a second time from Ross Nelson.

The longer the game went on, the stronger Gunners looked and the better football Gunners played.

West End failed to create many opportunities in the second half although Duncan had to make a good save from the right wing which he parried away.

In the final few minutes Gunners added a sixth goal when Paul Wallace headed in his first goal for the team from a corner from Paul Stout.

The final score was a comfortable 6-1 win. Bill Maslin was Gunners "Man of the Match" for the second week in a row after a good four goal display.
