Hays vs Earley Gunners 2 - 14

Match Report

Earley Gunners cruised to a comfortable victory against a poor Hays side who were missing a few players on a miserable Sunday morning.

Dave Owen got the team off to a flier in the first few minutes with a goal from a powerful shot and he also added a second whilst Kevin Rapley also netted in the first half.
The half time score was 3-0 to Gunners who felt they needed a couple more goals to kill the opposition off.

The goals soon flowed in the second half which was virtually one way traffic for the entire half. Sean Kearns added a fourth goal whilst Nick Burrows also got himself on the score sheet.
Ian Thornhill bagged a second half hat-trick whilst Dave Owen added a further goal to claim a hat-trick. Kevin Rapley also added three more goals and Leigh Holdway also added his name to the score sheet.

Hays did score two goals, the first when the ball was lost on the edge of the box and the Hays forward took advantage and scored with a well struck shot. The second Hays goal was a superb shot from kick off which flew over the keeper.

The most interesting point of the half was when a Hays player lost his temper with a team mate and stormed off the pitch leaving them with 10 men, but this was academic as the game was already over.

The final score was a 14 - 2 win to the Gunners which was their biggest ever! Dave Owen was named Gunners" Man of the Match"
