DC Steamers vs Earley Gunners 1 - 3

Match Report

Gunners avenged their early season defeat to DC Steamers with a 3-1 away win.

Gunners looked the better side in the first half and created numerous chances to score. Gunners eventually took the lead when Marcus Randles slotted the ball home from close range after a pass from Bill Maslin.

DC Steamers failed to create many chances in the first half and Duncan saw more action dodging cricket balls than stopping the football.

Gunners came close on a number of occasions through Marcus, Peter and Steve but could not grab the second goal.

At the other end of the field, the defence looked particularly solid against DC Steamers attacks.
The half time score was 1-0.

In the second half, the game was more even. DC Steamers had more possession and eventually forced an equaliser when Lee Bonnici put the ball into his own goal.

DC Steamers had a good period of possession forcing a number of corners and came close on a couple of occasions. They came closest to scoring when they lobbed the keeper only for Peter Ali to head off the line.

Gunners did try and counter but never really created many good opportunities to regain the lead.

However, with fifteen minutes to go Steve Tranter turned the game. He gave Gunners the lead when Bill Maslin played him through for him to make the perfect chip over the keeper and then sealed the win when he picked up the ball in his own half and totally outpaced the DC Steamers defence, shrugged off the final challange before slotting the ball home from a tight angle.

The final score was a 3-1 win. There were a number of good performances all round with everyone battling well to keep Gunners competitive during the game but Gunners "Man of the Match" was Matt Rees for an awesome display in defence.
